EGAT and G H Bank promoted energy-efficient houses by providing advice on building Label No. 5 houses, evaluating house designs, and offering a special financial service "Happy Home Project" to real estate developers and the public for purchasing or building Label No. 5 houses in hopes of saving cost, protecting the environment, and driving the country toward a low carbon society, sustainably.

On February 27, 2023, Mr. Prasertsak Cherngchawano, Deputy Governor - Strategy of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), and Mr. Witthaya Saenphakdee, Senior Executive Vice President of the Government Housing Bank (G H Bank), signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the Sustainable Development of Energy Efficient Housing for Thais at the Auditorium, 3rd Floor, EGAT 50th Anniversary Building, EGAT Headquarters, Nonthaburi Province.

Mr. Prasertsak Cherngchawano said that EGAT has carried out the Energy Efficiency Label No. 5 House Project (https://homeno5.egat.co.th) since 2017 by establishing regulations for house designs, building materials, and efficient electrical equipment, as well as energy management system innovations to support the Residential Energy Code (REC). Currently, there are 61 Label No. 5 house designs and 5,400 houses completed, which can reduce electricity cost for residents around 44 million baht per year, save energy for the country around 11 million units per year, save energy expenses for residents by more than 40% compared to normal houses, and is comparable to reducing around 5,300 tons of CO2 per year. To develop the project further, EGAT joined hands with G H Bank for financial service support to encourage real estate developers and the public to invest in energy-efficient and eco-friendly house development.

Mr. Witthaya Saenphakdee added that G H Bank is a state enterprise under the Ministry of Finance with the mission of "Enabling Thai people to have their own homes." G H Bank is pleased to join hands with EGAT to support housing loan products for real estate developers and the public to purchase or build houses according to the regulations of EGAT's Energy Efficiency Label No. 5 House Project under the Bank's Happy Home Project. In 2022, there were housing loans of 13,000 million baht approved and the amount is increasing continuously, reflecting positive feedback toward energy-efficient and eco-friendly housing. G H Bank also places importance on the environment, society, and the responsibility of a business by delivering eco-friendly services for a better quality of life and well-being of the people.

EGAT and G H Bank have set a goal to build energy efficient houses totaling 5,000 houses under the 3-year MOU, which can save energy usage for the country around 32.5 million units per year, or 130 million baht per year, and reduce around 14,600 tons of CO2 per year. This MOU promotes participation with stakeholders in order to reduce greenhouse gas and develop the country toward a low carbon society concretely.
