Hertsmere Community Lottery celebrates first birthday!

One good cause received extra funding, thanks to Hertsmere Community Lottery's birthday draw on Sunday 18 December.

Belstone Football Club in Radlett has received an additional £250 in support as a special gift from the community lottery on celebration on its first birthday.

The Hertsmere Community Lottery can help local organisations and charities to raise unlimited and unrestricted year-round funds. The community lottery is on track to help local groups, sports clubs, heritage groups, voluntary organisations and charities raise over £10,000 in funds per year by selling lottery tickets to their supporters.

It is completely free to register and for every £1 ticket bought, organisations will receive 50p directly back to them, with a further 10p going to a Hertsmere general good causes fund. This compares to just 28p in the pound for the National Lottery, 27.5p from the Postcode Lottery and 20% from the Health Lottery going into good causes.

It's free, quick, and easy to register to fundraise through our local lottery. Once your charity has been approved:

  • Your supporters will have the chance to win £25,000 every week plus other bonus prizes.
  • You've got the chance to easily raise over £1,300 with just 50 weekly tickets throughout the year.
  • Your charity or good cause can raise recurring, unrestricted funds paid directly into your account monthly.
  • We'll help you with marketing support and your very own easy to set up webpage.

Councillor Meenal Sachdev, Portfolio Holder for Community, Leisure, Culture and Health, said: "Congratulations to Belstone Football Club on winning our first birthday prize draw. I hope this extra funding will help you to continue the great work you do supporting our local communities.

"In a time of shrinking budgets and increased community need, Hertsmere Community Lottery exists to enable people to support the causes they care most about, helping good causes to connect with their supporters and raise much needed funds.

"We are encouraging local good causes to sign up to our new community lottery. It's a simple way for organisations and groups that work to support our residents to raise vital funds. It's a win-win! Registration is free and for every £1 ticket sold, 50p will go directly back to those organisations that work to support our communities in Hertsmere, with a further 10p going to a general pot for Hertsmere good causes which will be distributed by the council."

Each organisation that signs up will receive a dedicated webpage on our Hertsmere Community Lottery website and be provided with a range of online and printable marketing materials to help encourage supporters to play.

Selling just 50 lottery tickets a week will help good causes raise £1,300 a year, not to mention any donations you could get from lucky winners! Most supporters buy more than one ticket and support for around two years. So, 50 tickets doesn't necessarily mean 50 supporters. There is no limit to how many people can buy tickets to support your charity either, so the sky really is the limit.

There is no catch, it's free to use Hertsmere Community Lottery to fundraise for your charity.

All good causes in Hertsmere who signed up to the scheme and went live by mid-December were automatically entered in to the prize draw.
