Transylvania proclaims today Norwood “Buddy” Cowgill Jr. Day of Appreciation

Transylvania University has proclaimed today - Friday, May 24, 2024 - as the Norwood "Buddy" Cowgill Jr. Day of Appreciation to commemorate his leadership, generosity and kindness.

Having served as chair of the school's Board of Trustees for the past four years, the 1965 alumnus and longtime board member has made a significant impact on the campus community. He was the lead donor for the Cowgill Center for Business, Economics and Education, and he provided major support for the Clive M. Beck Center and scholarships including the William T. Young and James G. Kenan III.

Today's honoree, who owns Cowgill Properties, also chaired the alumni phase of the Campaign for Transylvania (1992-97) and oversaw the opening of the school's new Campus Center and renovations of the Cowgill Center. Most recently, he fostered relations that led to the sale of Marquard Field for an affordable housing development.

The proclamation also noted his "wisdom, prudence and active promotion of the greater good of the university in liberal arts education for the benefit of all humankind." His service to the community and his alma mater have earned him numerous recognitions over the years, including the Morrison Medallion, Irvin Lunger Award, Junior Achievement Bluegrass Hall of Fame Laureate award and a Doctor of Laws Honorary from Transylvania.

President Brien Lewis signed the proclamation, which he read and presented at today's Board of Trustees meeting.
