On Monday, Metro's Art in Transit program will reveal three Earth Day-designed buses that are wrapped in original artwork created by local artists from kindergarten to sixth grade. This is the second year Metro has held the event.
WHAT: Metro will recognize an exceptional group of student artists who helped create art for three special Earth Day-wrapped buses.
WHO: Metro General Manager and Chief Executive Officer Randy Clarke, Metro Board Member Dr. Tracy Hadden Loh, and 15 students who created the art and their families.
WHEN: Monday, April 22 from 3-4:30 p.m. (Media, please arrive by 2:45 p.m.)
WHERE: Metro DC Headquarters, 300 7th St SW, Washington, DC 20024
Media that would like to attend should RSVP no later than Monday, April 22 by 10 a.m. by emailing [email protected].
Nearly 100 students submitted artwork and 15 were chosen by school representatives and jurisdictional art programs. The art depicts public transit's role in protecting our environment, combatting climate change, and supporting sustainable, livable communities.
The buses will be in service in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia starting Tuesday and can be found by using Metro's live tracker at wmata.com/live and clicking on "special edition." The art will also be displayed on digital screens in select rail stations including NoMa, Gallery Place, Farragut North, Metro Center, Crystal City, and L'Enfant Plaza.
