Tirreno-Adriatico. Stage 2. Fast stage to Follonica with crash in final

Thus, despite a 3-men break and an advantage over 8 minutes, finally, everything was decided in the massive sprint. With 7 km to go a big crash split the peloton in two parts, leaving many riders behind.

- In general, it was a good and calm stage, but the final was quite fast and tricky with many corners in the city. Our team did its best to hold Miguel Angel Lopez in front to avoid any problem. But, there was a crash almost in front of the group, leaving almost half of the peloton blocked on the road. In this situation our team did a very good job, the guys did their best to close the gap and to bring Lopez back in the first group. So, finally, for us everything ended ok, - said sports director Alexandr Shefer.

Thus, Miguel Angel Lopez supported by Alexey Lutsenko, Oscar Gatto and Dario Cataldo finished inside the leading group.

The German rider Marcel Kittel won the stage in sprint, overpassing the World champion Peter Sagan and the Italian Giacomo Nizzolo.

Patrick Bevin is the new overall leader of the race, taking the blue jersey from his teammate Damiano Caruso. Alexey Lutsenko is first among Astana Team riders at 54th position.

Stage 3 of the Tirreno-Adriatico will be held tomorrow: 239 km from Follonica to Trevi with 4 climbs, including the final climb in Trevi (2,5 km, 8,1% average, 20% max. gradient).
