Sumol+Compal investe 3M€ numa central fotovoltaica para fábrica de Almeirim

Committed to meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and improving energy cost efficiency, Sumol+Compal has an ongoing investment of three million euros in a photovoltaic plant for the production and distribution unit in Almeirim, Santarém.

The first phase of the project is completed, and in operation, with the installation of 1,850 photovoltaic panels, in an area of 11 thousand square meters.

The plant will make the factory more sustainable from an energy point of view, with the production of renewable energy for self-consumption. This project aims to reach an installed power of 3 megawatts-peak (MWp) and will continue this year, according to the company on its Linkedin page.

Sumol+Compal thus takes another important step towards decarbonisation, diversification and energy independence. If this energy were produced using fossil energy, the company calculates, around 984 tons of CO2 would be emitted per year, which is equivalent to the capture of CO2 by 44,643 trees.

In addition to Almeirim, the company is studying the possibility of future photovoltaic plants in Pombal, Vila Flor and in its main building in Carnaxide.
