Minister participates in 2nd OIC Summit on Science and Technology

Delegated by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Education Minister Dr. Majid bin Ali Al Nuaimi, the Board of Trustees Chairman of the Higher Education Council, participated in the 2nd Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit on Science and Technology. The virtual summit was presided by the UAE and organised by OIC with the participation of Heads of State of the organisation's member states as well as senior officials from regional and international organisations and development institutions. The Education Minister conveyed the greetings of HM the King and his interest in boosting cooperation between the Islamic countries, mainly in the fields of science and technology. He also conveyed HM the King's best wishes of every success to the summit. He affirmed the kingdom's appreciation of participating in the summit which aims to promote Islamic work by boosting the role of science and technology. He underlined Bahrain's support to the international efforts in the environment, climate, health and food security fields. He congratulated the member states on their scientific and technological accomplishments, hailing the efforts of Kazakhstan being the President of the first OIC Summit on Science and Technology. He also wished the UAE every success in chairing the 2nd summit. The Education Minister pointed out that the circumstances resulting from the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic have shown the need for concerted efforts to develop medical science and technologies to contribute to the international efforts to handle the pandemic and weather its effects. He added that the Kingdom of Bahrain has provided Covid-19 vaccine for all citizens and residents alike. The Education Minister highlighted Bahrain's efforts to achieve progress in the scientific and technological field by switching to the digital empowerment phase, the production of the digital content and expansion in using the advanced digital educational technologies. In the concluding communique, the participants underscored the need for cooperation between the member states to exchange experiences and boost the youth's skills so as to meet the requirements of the labour market. They also praised the efforts made in combating the coronavirus pandemic calling to take advantage of the lessons learnt during the pandemic to further promote cooperation between the research centres at the national, regional and international levels. The meeting was attended by Higher Education Council Secretary General, Dr. Shaikha Rana bint Isa bin Daij Al Khalifa, the Deputy Chairman of the Higher Education Council Board of Trustees, and a number of officials from the Higher Education Council Secretariat General.
