Dr. McCauley Inaugurated President of the PLA

Dr. Maria McCauley, Director of Libraries for the City of Cambridge, was inaugurated as President of the Public Library Association (PLA) at the American Library Association's (ALA) annual conference in Washington, DC, on Tuesday, June 28. Dr. McCauley is serving as President from July 2022-June 2023 and will serve as Immediate Past President from 2023-2024.

Dr. McCauley has served as Director of Libraries for the City of Cambridge since August 2016, and previously served as Director of Libraries in Santa Monica, California, and Somerville, Massachusetts. Dr. McCauley is a former Executive Board member of the ALA and is on the Board of Advisors for Beacon Press. Dr. McCauley earned a Bachelor of Arts from Ohio Wesleyan University, a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Pittsburgh, and a PhD from Simmons University. She is an ALA Spectrum Scholar, class of 1999.

I'm excited to collaborate with the PLA board and staff to amplify the vital role of public libraries, library staff, and their contributions to communities," said Dr. McCauley. "Library staff across 17,000 public library facilities in the United States transform lives daily through innovative educational resources and programs."
