Recognition Ceremony for Doug Hiser's Heron 'Aviery' Thursday Evening at 5:30pm

The first five Great Blue Herons are now proudly on display throughout the City of Dickinson. Seeded by the City's HOT Tax and coordinated by the Dickinson Art Guild, this community partnership has been a great success. Each heron represents a charitable component through a donation to the preservation of the bayou, funding for future arts programs in the City, and the general welfare of the City.

The herons are to be placed in front of businesses and bayou-front homes in the City to create a scavenger hunt much like you see in cities across Texas. With the first five locations being:

  • City Hall - "Aviary" painted by Doug Hiser - 4403 Hwy 3
  • Boat Ramp - "Diversity" painted by Anat Ronen - Hwy 3, Dickinson
  • Dickinson ISD Administration Building - "Queen of the Bayou" painted by Annika Farmer - 2218 FM 517
  • Paul Hopkins Park - "Ocean Motion" painted by Patsy Lindamood - 1000 FM 517
  • Railroad Museum - "Ernie the Storyteller" painted by Jen Sumrall and DHS Artists 2022 - 218 FM 517

This project has been featured numerous times over the last few months at different milestones throughout the project coming to fruition:

The City will hold a recognition ceremony THIS Thursday, May 12th at 5:30pm in front of City Hall for Doug Hiser's heron, "Aviery". There will be a brief presentation by the artist, the Dickinson Art Guild, and the Mayor. Members of Council and the Art Guild will be present. The event is open for the public to attend.
