Natia Turnava: Cooperation with Clearstream to Bolster Georgia's Position as Financial Hub of the Region

Natia Turnava, the Acting Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, met with Jan Willems and Christian Rossler, leaders of Clearstream, the international central securities depository (ICSD), during the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank in Washington DC.


The meeting focused on the collaboration between the National Bank of Georgia and Clearstream, particularly in managing foreign exchange reserves and enhancing accessibility to the Georgian securities market for global investors.


Clearstream's significant role in facilitating international investment funds' access to the Georgian market was acknowledged. According to Jan Willems, Georgia is a regional leader in securities market development, underscoring the growing importance of Georgian financial institutions in the regional financial sector.


Natia Turnava emphasized the strategic partnership with Clearstream, a key player in Europe's financial market infrastructure with global reach. She highlighted that cooperation with Clearstream is pivotal in integrating Georgia's financial sector with global markets, fostering the development of Georgia as the financial hub of the region.


Both parties expressed readiness to deepen cooperation in minimizing investment risks for foreign investors and streamlining the investment process through innovative financial instruments. Giorgi Laliashvili, the Head of the Financial Markets Department of the NBG, participated in the meeting.
