SCO Council of National Coordinators' meeting ends in Tashkent

The first meeting of the SCO Council of National Coordinators in 2022 was held in Tashkent on 25-28 January and chaired by Uzbekistan. The national coordinators of the eight SCO member states discussed the organisation's plans for 2022, including strengthening practical cooperation in various spheres in the SCO space and gradually increasing its activities and influence on the international stage, in particular by promoting partnership with other multilateral associations and formalising ties within the SCO formats of observer states and dialogue partners. They also reviewed the modalities for improving the organisation's performance in the context of international travel restrictions amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

The participants approved a plan of the main SCO events for 2022, the most important of which is the next meeting of the SCO Heads of State Council scheduled to take place in Uzbekistan in September 2022. Overall, the plan includes over 130 ministerial and expert meetings, conferences, forums, seminars and symposiums. They also exchanged views on the documents to be submitted for signing or approval at the Heads of State Council meeting.

The Republic of Uzbekistan assumed the SCO Presidency in September 2021.

The Council of National Coordinators is an SCO body that coordinates current SCO activities and cooperation between ministries and agencies of its member states.

The Republic of Uzbekistan took over the rotating SCO Presidency following the SCO Heads of State Council meeting held in Dushanbe on 17 September 2021.
