Seattle, WA (April 16, 2024) - The Office of Labor Standards (OLS) investigated Dollar Tree Stores, Inc. for alleged violations of the Paid Sick and Safe Time (PSST), Wage Theft, and Secure Scheduling Ordinances. Dollar Tree settled the allegations and agreed to pay a total financial remedy of $180,266.00 to 301 employees and $6,230.88 to the City of Seattle.
OLS alleged the employer failed to:
The investigation included Dollar Tree's University District, 145th Street, Aurora Avenue North, and Ranier Avenue South locations. The University District store closed in 2020. The discount variety store chain has more than 15,000 locations worldwide.
"OLS continues to investigate and find alleged violations of Seattle's labor standards by nationally operating companies including those like Dollar Tree Stores with global locations. This settlement emphasizes the importance of these companies operating in Seattle to adhere to the city's labor laws. Violations of PSST, committing wage theft, and neglecting secure scheduling requirements have a ripple effect from the workers themselves, to their families, and ultimately to the city's economy," said OLS Director Steven Marchese.
