Girls in Aviation Day returns to Tampa this Saturday

The Tampa Bay Chapter of Women in Aviation International's annual Girls in Aviation Day is returning this year to help encourage local children to explore careers in aviation and aerospace.

The free event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 24, at Sheltair Tampa, 4751 Jim Walter Blvd. All ages and genders are welcome to attend.

More than 30 sponsors including Tampa International Airport, Southwest Airlines, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, MacDill Air Force Base and more, have signed on to provide displays and learning activities for attendees. Several organizations will fly and display aircraft.

Free boxed lunches will be provided by Air Culinaire Worldwide.

Former NASA astronaut Nicole Stott, an engineer who participated in several space shuttle missions and International Space Station expeditions, is the keynote speaker. She will sign copies of her book, Back to Earth.

Speakers from the Airport and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will also be there, along with Bunnie Ambrose, who won the fastest time among Women In Aviation members in the Air Race Classic this year.

While the event is free, organizers ask you to register for admission. Click here to get free tickets.
