MAYOR CANTRELL CELEBRATES COMPLETION OF $7M LAKE TERRACE AND OAKS GROUP D ROADWORK PROJECT

NEW ORLEANS - Mayor LaToya Cantrell today was joined by New Orleans City Councilmember for District D Eugene Green, Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for Infrastructure Joseph Threat, Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) Executive Director Ghassan Korban and other City officials and community members to celebrate the completion of the $7 million Lake Terrace and Oaks Group D project.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on the corner of Oriole and Music streets in the Lake Terrace and Oaks community.

"These are truly unprecedented times with the amount of roadwork currently in queue throughout the streets of the city, and more is coming our way," said Mayor Cantrell. "We are on the front lines of climate change, and that's what makes these investments so vital. The completion of these projects will help mitigate future flooding particularly in District D. We have a lot to celebrate in this community, including these improvements and in how we are leveraging resources at the federal and local level."

"The comprehensive work performed in the Lake Oaks community will help to enhance the access that residents have to their homes," said Councilmember Green. "The comprehensive nature of the street work has additional benefits. These benefits include long-term focused repairs to the sewers, curbs and overlay. These repairs lessen the possibility of flooding and have enhanced the street infrastructure, such that it actually saves taxpayer dollars in the long run. Commendations are due to the Cantrell Administration and the Department of Public Works (DPW) and SWBNO. I look forward to the continuation of the completion of street work jobs in District D and in our city."

DPW contracted Boh Bros. Construction Co., LLC to repair approximately four blocks of roadway funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The project's architectural design was created by Mott Macdonald. The construction project was inspected by Integrated Logistical Support, Inc., (ILSI Engineering).

This was a full-depth reconstruction project, which included the following repairs:

• Replacing damaged underground water, sewer and drainage lines
• Repaving the roadway
• Replacing damaged sidewalks and driveway aprons
• Installing Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps at intersections

"We are committed to investing in our infrastructure and ensuring that residents in our city have quality work and a better quality of life," said Threat. "This $7 million project in the Lake Terrace and Oaks neighborhood, provided through our DPW and SWBNO Joint Infrastructure Program and the tremendous partnership with FEMA is a true sign of progress. Thank you to the team of women and men who have led this project from inception to completion, and to the residents for their patience and support along the way. We look forward to celebrating the completion of more projects in the near future."

"Today, we stand with our administration and neighbors to applaud another reconstruction project, this time in our Lake Terrace and Lake Oaks neighborhoods," said Korban. "We are proud to work with our partners at the City of New Orleans to emphasize a culture of proactive replacement when it comes to our aging infrastructure. These Joint Infrastructure Recovery Request (JIRR) Program efforts are a prime example of our commitment to infrastructure resilience and reliability."

Construction began on the Lake Terrace and Oaks Group D in June 2020 as a part of the City's JIRR program coordinated in conjunction with the SWBNO. Currently, there are five roadway projects under construction in District D valued at $67 million. In addition, 56 active construction projects are underway, valued at $604 million in partnership with the SWBNO.

The Cantrell Administration has invested $875 million in roadway projects in the city since taking office in May 2018.
