Readout from World Bank Group President David Malpass’s Virtual Meeting with Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister of Egypt

WASHINGTON, March 3, 2022 - Today, World Bank Group President David Malpass met virtually with Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister of Egypt.

President Malpass and Prime Minister Madbouly spoke on the fragility challenges facing the world, noting the amplification of these issues by the Ukraine crisis. As the world works to respond to these issues, President Malpass highlighted the growing importance of regional integration and cooperation, particularly on energy. President Malpass and Prime Minister Madbouly also spoke on the challenges facing Sudan, Ethiopia, and Libya.

President Malpass and Prime Minister Madbouly discussed the focus of the upcoming World Bank Group (WBG) Country Partnership Framework (CPF) on enabling Egypt's private sector, and partnership with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), supporting women's inclusion in the economy, and improving resilience.

President Malpass acknowledged Egypt's leadership of the upcoming COP27 and Egypt's efforts toward addressing climate change. President Malpass and Prime Minister Madbouly exchanged views on the importance of focusing on concrete, impactful projects that will translate ambition into climate action, as well as on the need for integrating climate and development to prioritize interventions and the role of the new WBG Country Climate and Development Reports (CCDRs).
