USGBC congratulates Adrianne Todman on her appointment to the role of acting secretary at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), following the departure of the former secretary, Marcia Fudge. HUD is focused on pursuing economic development and creating affordable housing for low-income families and underserved communities.

Housing accounts for around 13% of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, making it a critical piece of the climate puzzle.  We have an urgent responsibility to build and maintain more sustainable, healthy and equitable housing.

At USGBC Live in 2022, USGBC's federal legislative director, Ben Evans, welcomed Adrianne Todman, then deputy secretary of HUD, to the stage. We were honored to host Todman as she delivered keynote remarks at our opening session in Washington, D.C. on June 9. As a leader aligned with USGBC in mission and vision, Todman has helped ensure in her work at HUD that the organization possesses the necessary staff and tools to successfully oversee programs essential to supporting all people and communities in the U.S.

According to her page on the HUD website, Todman believes that "we have a responsibility to confront housing insecurity; increase and preserve the nation's housing supply; eliminate housing discrimination; and support community resiliency, particularly following a natural disaster."

In the USGBC Live interview, Todman affirmed her commitment to ensuring that everyone in the U.S. has access to a safe, stable and healthy home, and encouraged the USGBC community to become familiar with HUD's new climate action plan.
