Town of Nantucket and Water Commissioners Announce Termination of Wyer’s Valley Solar Project

The Town of Nantucket regrets to announce the termination of contracts with TotalEnergies ("Solar Star Tranquility, LLC") for a proposed 3.8MW solar farm project, located at 1 Milestone Rd.

After three years of substantial, good faith efforts between parties to develop the solar energy generating facility to provide the Nantucket community with renewable energy benefits, and associated net metering credits and cost-savings to taxpayers, the Town, Water Department, and developer have mutually decided to discontinue the project.

Despite ongoing enthusiasm and diligent efforts by all parties involved, certain permitting and land use challenges have emerged, presenting substantial risk to the timely permitting, financing and development of the project, necessitating this difficult decision.

The Nantucket Select Board and Water Commissioners express their sincere appreciation to TotalEnergies for their dedication, collaboration, and contributions throughout the complex contracting, planning and development phases of the project. We value the insights gained and the relationships formed during our engagement.

Although this particular endeavor has reached its conclusion, the Town remains committed to exploring renewable energy solutions and initiatives that align with our commitment to environmental stewardship, sustainability and resilience.

The project website will be preserved for future public information needs and document archival purposes.
