Planning Commission to consider zoning amendments, hear briefing on short-term rentals

April 17, 2024 - Hampton's Planning Commission will consider eight zoning amendments that relate to two topics -- private schools that offer physical recreational facilities and adjustments to the Coliseum Central district. At its meeting Thursday afternoon, the commission will also hear an update on proposed changes to short-term rental requirements.

The first set of amendments propose creating a new use called "physical recreational facilities for uses," which encompasses studios for such activities as martial arts, gymnastics, and dance, which may have a mixture of classes and open floor or gym time. The amendments also propose expanding where schools are permitted with an approved use permit.

In Coliseum Central, the changes would permit more housing in taller buildings while reducing parking requirements.

The Planning Commission will meet at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in chambers on the eighth floor of City Hall, 22 Lincoln St. The meeting is open to the public It will be aired live on the city's TV channel -Fios 22 and Cox 47, and streamed live at hampton.gov/livetv.
