State Department Of Transportation Announces Completion Of $4.2 Million Bridge Replacement Project In Wyoming County

New Steel Girder Bridge Improves Travel Along Important Conduit for Local Agricultural Products

New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez today announced the completion of a $4.2 million project that replaced the bridge carrying State Route 19 over Oatka Creek in the Town of Warsaw, Wyoming County. The original structure, built in 1937, was replaced with a modern, steel multi-girder bridge that will improve travel along an important transport route that serves the region's bustling agricultural community. The project, which was completed ahead of schedule, also installed a "wildlife bench" that allows animals to bypass State Route 19 and access their habitats along Oatka Creek.

"Earlier this year, we began this investment in Wyoming County's infrastructure and a few short months later, motorists have a brand new bridge that will last a generation," said Commissioner Dominguez. "I am proud of our team that understood State Route 19's importance to the region and worked tirelessly to complete this project ahead of schedule and on budget. With the completion of this bridge replacement, NYSDOT has ensured that State Route 19 will remain a key thoroughfare for farmers looking to get their goods to market and all motorists looking to visit all that Wyoming County has to offer."

State Route 19 is an important conduit for agricultural products flowing out of Wyoming County and plays a critical role connecting the Village of Warsaw to the Village of Le Roy and the City of Batavia in the north, and to the Southern Tier in the south. The new bridge has an expected service life of 75 years, which help keep goods and people flowing along this vital route for decades to come. It also features seven-and-one-half foot shoulders to better accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians.

The wildlife bench consists of loose stone alongside the bridge's northern abutment and will benefit animals such as deer, beavers, otters, minks, and weasels, all of which are native to the area. This wildlife bench is one of a handful of benches NYSDOT has across the region and highlights the Department's commitment and stewardship to our environment.

Senator Patrick Gallivan said, "The completion of this project ahead of schedule is good news for residents, farms and other businesses throughout the region. The state's continued investment in our roads and bridges is vital to New York's economy and our quality of life."

Assemblymember David DiPietro said, "Long-term investment in our local infrastructure is absolutely crucial to our western New York communities. It's a breath of fresh air to see this much-needed project completed and done so weeks ahead of schedule. This project is a huge step in the right direction for the future of our state's infrastructure."

Wyoming County Board of Supervisors Chairwoman and Town of Warsaw Supervisory Rebecca J. Ryan said, "I would like to take this opportunity to thank New York New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez and NYSDOT for the completion of the bridge replacement project over Oatka Creek on State Route 19. Commissioner Dominguez and NYSDOT are to be commended for replacing and updating the 1937 bridge with the new steel multi-girder bridge. This re-opens one of the most vital travel routes into the town and village of Warsaw and the southern tier of Wyoming County weeks ahead of schedule. As I stated when this project was announced, Route 19 is a vital route for Wyoming County Community Hospital as well as to bring tourists and suppliers to our hospitality, retail, restaurants, agricultural and manufacturing businesses. Thank you for a job well done!"

Village Of Warsaw Mayor Joe Robinson said, "As we said at the beginning of the bridge replacement project, this is an essential improvement for one of our gateway entries to the Village of Warsaw. I would like to thank the New York State Department of Transportation for their outstanding and timely work in carrying out this major infrastructure project. They performed their work with the highest degree of professionalism with minimal disruption to traffic flow. On behalf of our village residents, I want to thank all involved for their efforts."

Accelerating Finger Lakes Forward

Today's announcement complements "Finger Lakes Forward," the region's comprehensive blueprint to generate robust economic growth and community development. The regionally designed plan focuses on investing in key industries including photonics, agriculture‎ and food production, and advanced manufacturing. Now, the region is accelerating Finger Lakes Forward with a $500 million State investment through the Upstate Revitalization Initiative. The State's $500 million investment will incentivize private business to invest well over $2.5 billion - and the region's plan, as submitted, projects up to 8,200 new jobs.
