First Street Bridge Rehabilitation Project

The City of Elmhurst is receiving roughly $3 million between 2020- 2022 through the State of Illinois's REBUILD Illinois Capital Program. These grant funds are being provided to the City for specific transportation projects; including bridge work. The City owns two bridges, the First Street and Park Avenue bridges over Robert Palmer Drive. First Street was built in the 1970's and currently needs a bridge deck overlay to prevent increased damage to the bridge in the future. The City has programmed REBUILD grant funds for the overlay of this bridge deck in the summer of 2022. The scope of the project will include a bridge deck overlay, parapet wall repairs, beam and bearing painting, and sidewalk repairs. The project will take place this summer, with the construction timeline restricted between June 6th and August 5th. During construction, the bridge will be closed to traffic, so a detour route will establish a safe and efficient bypass of the bridge.
