CABEI meets with economic team of the newly elected government of the Republic of Honduras

Tegucigalpa, December 03, 2021.- This Friday, CABEI authorities, led by Executive President Dante Mossi, met with the economic transition team of the elected government to learn first-hand about the initiatives promoted and supported by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE) in Honduras, as well as to identify opportunities to be developed starting next year.

Dr. Mossi took advantage of the meeting to provide details on the Bank's active portfolio in the public and private sector in Honduras, which amounts to US$1,900.0 million, as well as to discuss disbursements in the last two years, which exceeded US$1,000. 0 million for the development of programs and projects in sectors such as vehicle infrastructure, development operations, education, combating the COVID-19 pandemic, enrollment of 5.5 million Hondurans, printing, and delivery of the new National Identity Card (DNI); for the Honduran population's benefit.

"We are pleased with this first meeting with the new government where we were able to discuss what we are doing as CABEI to benefit the country and identify priorities for the next four years in office. As the most important Bank in the region, we will continue working hard to improve the quality of life of Honduran and Central American families," said Mossi.

The new economic team learned about the actions taken by CABEI to provide an agile response to the pandemic, such as support for the purchase of 4.4 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines; and the channeling of US$358.7 million to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) to reactivate their economies and preserve at least 37,000 jobs, benefiting 147,000 Hondurans.

In addition, CABEI's operations in response to natural disasters, which amounted to US$225.8 million, were discussed, including initiatives to subsidize and finance families to rebuild and construct resilient housing, the relief bond for vulnerable families, the studies and final design for the construction of six earth dams and the study of hydraulic infrastructure in the Lower Choluteca River Basin.

CABEI reinforced its commitment to continue working hand in hand with the governments in order to continue providing financial and technical support for the region's development.
