Go Green and Clean: Spring Cleanup Begins

Pierre's annual Go Green and Clean spring cleanup campaign is underway.

Between now and the middle of May, community members will volunteer their time to clean up public spaces around Pierre. Projects include cleaning up flower beds, litter patrol, and washing down the Trail of Governors statues.

City Parks and Recreation Director Bryan Tipton says that he keeps a list of volunteer opportunities that support the campaign and uses it to match volunteers with a project they are interested in completing.

"We have a few groups who got out of the gates early and already have their projects complete," said Tipton. "If you've noticed the Kennedy School area or Dog Park looking especially nice, you have the Kennedy Fifth Grade Class, and Cub Scouts Pack 273 to thank."

"A big thank you to all the volunteers and groups who support the Go Green and Clean campaign," said Pierre Mayor Steve Harding. "You really do make our community more beautiful for those of us who live here, as well as those who are just traveling through."

This year's campaign has officially started and continues through May 15. It is a civic pride effort designed to get the city spruced up for the summer season. For more than a decade, dozens of volunteers and volunteer groups have painted public facilities, cleaned up flower beds, cleared litter, and otherwise helped make Pierre look its best.

"There's still a few unclaimed projects," Tipton added. "We're always happy to have more volunteers!"
