Charges laid in jewellery store thefts and robberies

(Ottawa) -The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit has charged two individuals responsible for several jewellery store thefts and robberies following a complex four-month-long investigation.

The incidents:

1. December 29^th, 2023, theft, 100 block of Place D'Orleans Drive
2. January 2^nd, 2024, theft, 8000 block of Campeau Drive
3. January 5^th, armed robbery, 8000 block of Campeau Drive
4. February 22^nd, armed robbery, 100 block of Place D'Orleans Drive
5. February 24^th, armed robbery, 8000 block of Campeau Drive
6. April 6^th, armed robbery, 2100 block of Carling Avenue
7. April 8^th, armed robbery, 100 block of Place D'Orleans Drive

On April 12^th, the Robbery Unit, with the assistance of the Tactical Unit, Neighbourhood Resource Team, Canine Unit and Forensic team, executed warrants at two homes.

Haider IQBAL, 23 years old, of Ottawa was arrested in relation to the seven above noted incidents. He was charged with:

• Theft over $5000 (x2)
• Have face masked/disguised (x5)
• Attempted robbery (x2)
• Possess weapons dangerous to the public (x4)
• Mischief over $5000 (x4)
• Conspiracy to commit an indictable offence (x4)
• Robbery (x3)

A 16-year-old, who cannot be named per the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), was charged with IQBAL in relation to robberies nos. 6 and 7.

Both were remanded into custody.
