Charges laid in jewellery store thefts and robberies

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Tuesday, April 16, 2024 12:05 pm

(Ottawa) -The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit has charged two individuals responsible for several jewellery store thefts and robberies following a complex four-month-long investigation.

The incidents:

  1. December 29th, 2023, theft, 100 block of Place D'Orleans Drive
  2. January 2nd, 2024, theft, 8000 block of Campeau Drive
  3. January 5th, armed robbery, 8000 block of Campeau Drive
  4. February 22nd, armed robbery, 100 block of Place D'Orleans Drive
  5. February 24th, armed robbery, 8000 block of Campeau Drive
  6. April 6th, armed robbery, 2100 block of Carling Avenue
  7. April 8th, armed robbery, 100 block of Place D'Orleans Drive

On April 12th, the Robbery Unit, with the assistance of the Tactical Unit, Neighbourhood Resource Team, Canine Unit and Forensic team, executed warrants at two homes.

Haider IQBAL, 23 years old, of Ottawa was arrested in relation to the seven above noted incidents. He was charged with:

  • Theft over $5000 (x2)
  • Have face masked/disguised (x5)
  • Attempted robbery (x2)
  • Possess weapons dangerous to the public (x4)
  • Mischief over $5000 (x4)
  • Conspiracy to commit an indictable offence (x4)
  • Robbery (x3)

A 16-year-old, who cannot be named per the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), was charged with IQBAL in relation to robberies nos. 6 and 7.

Both were remanded into custody.
