Provide Input for the Roadway Safety Action Plan

The City of Newport News and the Department of Engineering are constantly looking for ways to make streets safer for drivers and pedestrians. A U.S. Department of Transportation's Safe Streets and Roads for All grant is funding a local study to identify challenges and concerns that citizens face as they navigate city streets and the transportation system. The study will not only identify challenges, but also recommend initiatives, potential projects, and ways to help prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries.

Study results will help the city's Engineering Department develop a Newport News Safety Action Plan focused on infrastructure, human behavior, responsible oversight of the vehicle and transportation industry, and emergency response. The ultimate goal for the city is to build forward while significantly reducing roadway fatalities or serious injuries.

Resident input and participation are essential. Please visit the project website and use the Interactive Project Map to indicate your safety concerns, leave comments, and join the mailing list to receive regular updates.

Citizens are also invited to complete a State of Safety Survey to provide input regarding travel habits and safety priorities on Newport News streets.
