Law School Community Message about Recent Campus Events

LMU Loyola Law School Interim Dean Brietta Clark distributed the following message to members of the LMU Loyola Law School community on Wednesday, April 17, 2024.

Dear LLS Community,

Yesterday, our community witnessed student conduct-unprecedented on our campus-that fell below any legitimate standard of decency and professionalism, let alone our institutional mission and values. During and after a speaker event organized by a law student organization, members of our community have reported experiencing or witnessing hateful, personal attacks directed at others. Let me be clear: Antisemitism, Islamophobia, racism, and xenophobia will not be tolerated on our campus.

I want to assure everyone in our community that your safety and well-being is paramount to us, as is our commitment to ensuring that all in our community can pursue their academic and co-curricular objectives without unreasonable obstruction or hindrance. Whether you were directly impacted or not, please know that my entire team is working to respond to community members in need.

We have deployed all available resources to conduct a prompt investigation of this matter. Any and all disciplinary action will be pursued as appropriate. If you have any concern regarding safety, please report those concerns to LLS Public Safety. Additionally, the Office of Student Affairs ([email protected]) can assist with access to resources and services to support your well-being.

I am deeply saddened by the events of this week. I empathize with those who have experienced hurt. There is nothing I value more than the intellectual vibrancy and diversity of our community, especially when we engage our students, faculty, and staff in discussions about society's most timely and complex challenges. But that commitment has limits. And I am committed to helping our community move forward toward a path of dialogue and engagement that honors our values and mission.
