BEIJING, Apr. 16 -- Recently, the 14th Chinese Peacekeeping Horizontal Engineering Company to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) completed the maintenance mission for the main supply route from Turalei to Ajak-Kuac with high standards and passed the acceptance by the Engineering Department of the UNMISS Kuajok Base.

This supply route is the main road connecting the states of Warrap and Unity of South Sudan, playing a vital role in transporting material supply and providing humanitarian relief for the UNMISS. Due to the high frequency of use and the impact of rain wash, the supply route had suffered much damage, seriously affecting the lives of the local people.

The Chinese engineering contingent started the one-month construction work immediately after reaching the mission area in late February. They carried out pavement repair and leveling work for pits and subsidence points. In some special sections with low terrain or near the river, the peacekeepers also repaired and dredged culvert pipes to mitigate the impact of rainwash.

The Chinese peacekeepers established profound relationships with the local people during the mission. When they were on the way back after the task, the local children came to see them off.

According to the commanding officer of the Chinese engineering contingent, they will continue to undertake various peacekeeping missions such as barrack renovation, engineering construction based on the plan of the UNMISS.
