Here are the latest updates about City of Fort Worth programs and services:
The City of Fort Worth, through the Office of Emergency Management, has a free alert system called Fort Worth Texas Alerts. This system replaced the NIXLE system. If residents were previously registered for NIXLE alerts, they will need to register for this system in order to receive emergency notifications. Register for texts, phone calls, email or a combination of all three.
Tuesday's City Council meeting was canceled. Agenda topics for Tuesday's meeting will appear on a future agenda.
The South East Landfill (garbage) and Materials Recovery Facility (recycling) closed early on Monday and will remain closed through Wednesday. Due to these closures, all residential collections (garbage, recycling, yard and bulk) for some Monday, all Tuesday and all Wednesday customers will be suspended.
Residents with these collection days will have expanded garbage service on their normal collection days next week. Meanwhile for safety and to prevent litter, residents are asked to pull in their garbage/recycling carts until next week's regularly scheduled collection day.
Residents who did not get collected during the week of Jan. 30-Feb. 3 will be allowed to set out four additional bags of garage on their regularly scheduled day next week.
The four drop-off stations and the Environmental Collection Center will also be closed Wednesday.
There will be no yard waste collections through Sunday, Feb. 12. Residential collection of yard waste will resume Monday, Feb. 13. This will allow the City to divert staff and equipment to catch up on collections next week.
City of Fort Worth staff and its Solid Waste collection partners will continue to evaluate the weather and road conditions and make decisions on daily collections by 6 a.m. daily.
Over the next few weeks, Code Compliance will work with residents and commercial enterprises to resolve collection issues. Code will temporarily suspend enforcement of bagged garbage outside of carts, dumpsters and other receptacles until collection routes are caught up.
When residential collections resume, normal collection trucks will pick up items in carts and a separate collection truck will pick up any additional bags. This will expedite the collection process.
The decision to activate the overflow shelter is made each night, based on occupancy at other shelters. The overflow shelter at Union Gospel Mission is activated. During cold weather when regular shelter beds are full, the City funds overflow shelter beds for those experiencing homelessness.
Day shelter:True Worth Day, 1513 E. Presidio St 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Serving breakfast and lunch.
Night shelter: Report to regular area emergency shelters and text FWCOLD to 817-241-3544 to sign up for free text alerts about severe weather for people experiencing homelessness.
The public is welcome to use community centers and library locations as a warm place during regular open hours. No overnight sheltering or transportation will be provided. Call before to confirm your location is open.
All Fort Worth Public Library locations will remain closed on Wednesday. The Fort Worth Public Library is fine-free and there are no penalties for items returned after their due date.
Development-related services will be virtual through Wednesday. All development services are regularly available virtually, and they will continue to be available throughout this period. In-person services will resume at 8 a.m. Thursday.
The Diversity & Inclusion Department will provide virtual services during inclement weather. Residents are encouraged to call 817-392-7525 for virtual options regarding any scheduled in-person meetings through Wednesday.
The Water Department is monitoring the weather event and stands ready to respond to any impacts that could affect the distribution system.

Apartment dwellers without water should contact the apartment's management first. The issue may be the private plumbing lines are frozen or have a break.
Fort Worth Municipal Court is adjusting its building access for in-person services to close at 3 p.m. Tuesday and available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday. Staff will still be providing service to the public by phone and online chat 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
On Tuesday, all in-person court dockets (including jury trials) are canceled and will be rescheduled for a future date. The downtown Courts building will be open for walk-in counter service from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Phone calls and online chat will be received during regular business hours.

The Revenue Office (Central Cashier-City Hall lower level) is closed for in-person transactions Tuesday and Wednesday. Limited staff are available to handle customer phone calls and email remotely.
The Central Payroll and Central Accounts Payable customer service counter (City Hall third floor-Finance Department) is closed for in-person service Tuesday and Wednesday.

At Will Rogers Memorial Center, the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo will continue this week as scheduled. At the Fort Worth Convention Center, the NBS Spring Market, a convention and trade show, moves in as scheduled. The show starts Thursday.
TEXpress lanes are closed until further notice.
Transportation & Public Works crews are sanding bridges, overpasses, major roads and entrances and ramps to hospital emergency rooms.
There are no road closures at this time. Plenty of resources - people, trucks and sand - are available.
TxDOT and North Texas Tollway Authority have begun brine operations on elevated surfaces and will continue to do so.

North Animal Campus and Silcox Adoption Center are closed to the public through Wednesday. For the safety of residents and animals, City of Fort Worth staff will continue to evaluate weather conditions for safe access to its campuses.
Hulen and Alliance PetSmart Adoption Centers are closed through Wednesday. PetSmart management plans to reopen Thursday, depending on weather and road conditions.

The Low-Cost Vaccine Clinic, in partnership with Operation Kindness, has been rescheduled to 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, at the Chuck & Brenda Silcox Animal Care & Adoption Center parking lot, 4900 Martin St., 76119.
