Tree Dedicated Honoring the People of Wisconsin

This morning Representative Bryan Steil, Representative Glenn Grothman, Representative Thomas P. Tiffany, Representative Derrick Van Orden and other distinguished guests gathered on the U.S. Capitol Grounds to dedicate a tree in honor of the people of Wisconsin.

"Today we plant a sugar maple, the state tree of Wisconsin. The sugar maple is widely beloved for its longevity, its strikingly vibrant fall colors, and, of course, its sugary sap, used for making maple sugar and syrup," said Jim Kaufmann, Director of Capitol Grounds and Arboretum. "As the sugar maple can grow to more than 70 feet and live for hundreds of years, it is a standout addition to our collection and a wonderful way to honor the people of Wisconsin."

The Architect of the Capitol (AOC) cares for the historic and picturesque areas surrounding the U.S. Capitol. The U.S. Capitol Grounds were designed by famed landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted in 1874 and the AOC continues to follow his plan for creating an urban oasis in the nation's capital.
