ASA Announces Strategic Change to its Meetings Services Model with SmithBucklin Partnership

CHICAGO - The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) today announced a strategic change to its meetings services model by partnering with SmithBucklin, a firm with decades of innovation and excellence in designing and producing association events. ASA will partner with SmithBucklin to deliver its ANESTHESIOLOGY® and Practice Management™ meetings.

'The pandemic forced many business sectors to adapt to new safety demands and customer expectations. The meetings and events industry is evolving, and that evolution will continue beyond the public health emergency,' said ASA Chief Executive Officer Paul Pomerantz. 'SmithBucklin, with its industry reputation, professionalism and service capabilities, will take our meetings to the next level. Our decision to partner expands an already existing relationship with SmithBucklin as we currently work with its medical education company, The France Foundation.'

The partnership will enable ASA leadership to continue its oversight and content development for its Society meetings, leveraging its in-house talent while benefitting from SmithBucklin's creativity and modern event management experience. Given the company's depth and breadth of resources, ASA will be able to position its events for the future and prepare for any necessary changes impacting in-person, hybrid and virtual events.

This year's ANESTHESIOLOGY annual meeting will be presented in San Diego from October 8-12. PRACTICE MANAGEMENT™ 2022 will be held in Dallas from January 28-30, 2022.

'ASA has a deserved reputation as the leader in anesthesiology education and research, and provider of outstanding experiences for meeting attendees,' said Carol McGury, executive vice president, event and education services at SmithBucklin. 'We look forward to adding our perspective and resources to help align its meetings with ASA's evolving organizational strategy.'
