Aklan Posts Double-Digit Growth in 2022; All Provinces and HUCs in Western Visayas Post Positive Growths

The province of Aklan posted a double-digit growth of 22.5 percent, the fastest among the provinces in the 16 regions in 2022. Meanwhile, the rest of the provinces and two Highly Urbanized Cities (HUCs) in Western Visayas also posted positive growths. (Figure 1)

Of the PhP 955.02 billion total value of the region's economy in 2022, Negros Occidental accounted for the highest share of 25.8 percent. This was followed by Iloilo province and City of Iloilo with 21.6 percent and 15.2 percent shares, respectively. On the contrary, the province of Guimaras had the least share of 1.7 percent. (Figure 2)

Of the PhP 167.30 billion value of Agriculture, forestry and fishing of Western Visayas in 2022, Negros Occidental had the biggest share of 32.3 percent, followed by Iloilo with 32.1 percent share. (Table 1)

Similarly, Negros Occidental had the largest share in the total Industry of the region, accounting for 33.6 percent. Iloilo and Antique followed with 20.4 percent and 16.3 percent shares, respectively. (Table 1)

The City of Iloilo, Negros Occidental, and Iloilo had the biggest shares to the total value of Services in the region, accounting for 21.7 percent, 21.2 percent, and 18.9 percent, respectively. (Table 1)

In 2023, the Provincial Product Accounts (PPA) compilation covers 82 provinces and 17 HUCs across 16 regions in the country. The results covering the period 2018 to 2022 were consistent with the annual regional accounts released on 27 April 2023.
