Over 2,300 new students were admitted to Vantaa’s upper secondary schools in the joint application

The City of Vantaa's general upper secondary schools admitted 1,344 new students

A total of 1,344 youth got admissions to study in the City of Vantaa's Finnish- and Swedish-language general upper secondary schools (Lumo, Martinlaakso, Tikkurila, Sotunki, Vaskivuori and Helsinge gymnasium).

The lowest average grade in theoretical subjects for admission to the general programme in the City of Vantaa's general upper secondary schools was 7.08, the same as last year. The highest average grade limit for the general programme was that of Martinlaakso Upper Secondary School, where the lowest accepted average grade in theoretical subjects was 8.17. Not all applicants that reached the lowest average grade limit were necessarily admitted to the upper secondary school of their choosing, as there may be several applicants with the same average grade. In such cases, their order of preferred options was also considered in addition to the average grade in theoretical subjects. If the said order was also the same, admissions were made based on average grade in all subjects.

Among those admitted to the City of Vantaa's general upper secondary schools, 55% were girls and 45% boys.

Popular fields remained unchanged in vocational education

A total of 817 students were admitted to vocational qualification studies at Vantaa Vocational College Varia. The highest number of students (110) were admitted to the vocational qualification studies in logistics and transportation. The vocational qualification studies in aircraft maintenance had the highest number of applicants relative to available study places, admitting a total of 16 students. Student admissions in vocational education place more and more emphasis on students applying via the rolling application procedure. Among those admitted to Varia, 34% were girls and 66% boys.

Preparatory TUVA education

163 students were admitted to TUVA education. TUVA education is organised under Vantaa Vocational College Varia. TUVA education began in August 2022. TUVA education has replaced earlier forms of transitional phase education (10th grade, VALMA, and LUVA education).

The names of admitted students to be published on the schools' websites

Admitted applicants are notified of their study place by e-mail if the applicant has given their consent for electronic communication on the application form. Those who have not given their consent for electronic communication are notified of their study place with a letter.

The names of admitted students are published on the schools' websites for those who have given their consent for the publishing of their name. The study place must be accepted by 29 June 2023 at the latest. The schools wish that students accept their study places as soon as possible in order to notify those on reserve list about their study place.

Study places available for those on reserve list as well

Cancellation study places in general upper secondary schools and vocational schools are offered to students on the joint application reserve list, which is valid until 18 August 2023. Any available study places that were not accepted during the joint application are notified on the opintopolku.fi system and/or on the schools' own websites.

Study places ensured for every youth in Vantaa

In Vantaa, those who were left without a study place are offered cancellation places and training options outside the scope of joint application. As provided in the new Act on Compulsory Education, youth who have completed comprehensive education are obligated to apply until they receive a study place. Due to the extension of compulsory education, youth within its scope are guaranteed a study place by their municipality of residence.

Applying for vocational education outside the joint application procedure is also possible. Information on studies that are open for application is available on schools' websites. See studies open for application on Varia's website.

There is a rolling application to TUVA education starting on 15 June 2023. Apply to TUVA education on Varia's website.

The Ohjaamo guidance centre in Vantaa offers support for youth without a study place with searching available options and making applications. Click here to go to the website of Ohjaamo Vantaa.

Comprehensive school guidance counsellors can be contacted at their respective schools once the joint application results have been published. The guidance counsellor guides and helps students who have been left without a study place or students who might need advice on, e.g., how to accept a study place.
