Lithuania and Norway clinch promotion to Group II

The Billie Jean King Cup by BNP Paribas Europe/Africa Group III event came to a close on Saturday and it was hosts Lithuania and Norway who emerged from the 21-team event to win promotion to Group II next year.

Lithuania overcame Malta 2-0 at the SEB Arena in Vilnius thanks to a 6-1 6-4 win for Akvile Parazinskaite against Francesca Curmi followed by Justina Mikulskyte's 6-2 6-2 triumph over Helene Pellicano.

Mikulskyte said: 'We're really happy to go up to Group II. We're excited for next year and we're happy about today's win and we're really looking forward to see where the next year will take us.'

Norway's 2-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina saw the Scandinavians secure their place in Group II. Malene Helgo defeated Nefisa Berberovic 6-0 6-4 before Ulrikke Eikeri clinched victory for her team with a 7-5 6-3 win over Dea Herdzelas.

'I think this event has been amazing, said Eikeri. 'It has been very well organised and our team really enjoyed ourselves. The key for us has been really good team spirit and we really just enjoyed playing every match.'
