Nursing school names Krystle Edge as new assistant director

April 25, 2024

Krystle Edge (MSN, RNC-OB) has been selected as Campbell University's new assistant director of Nursing. Edge has been a part of the Catherine W. Wood School of Nursing since 2019. During this time, she taught Adult Health II and the Capstone course.

Originally from Sampson County, Edge holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Chamberlain College of Nursing. Her Master of Science in Nursing is from East Carolina University, and she is currently working towards her Doctor of Philosophy from Liberty University. Prior to coming to Campbell, Edge served as an instructor at Sampson Community College and an RN at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and at Betsy Johnson Hospital.

Nursing Program Manager Ryan Roth-Roffy said, "Mrs. Edge's extensive clinical and didactic experience and passion for the profession of nursing will greatly contribute to the continued excellence of the nursing program."

Mentorship is a large part of what makes Campbell nursing such a special community. The program and faculty keep in touch with graduates and support them through taking the NCLEX and beyond. Edge has had great mentors of her own, and mentioned two who have helped shape her into the educator that she is: Veronica Stevens, retired Director of Nursing and Health Programs at Sampson Community College (SCC), and Tonya Willingham, the previous assistant director of Nursing at Campbell University and Edge's master's degree preceptor.

Edge noted, "without Veronica, I would not be the educator I am today. Tonya really helped me cultivate and enhance what I learned at SCC."

"I am really excited about working with our new director, Pam Edwards, to grow this nursing program and make it the best in the state," Edge said. "I am also excited about getting to work with all the students in our program as my previous role mostly worked with seniors. Campbell is a loving and caring community where I am able to be flexible and work with my students regardless of any issue that may arise. Our students have many demands outside of the classroom, but we have the ability to work with them to meet their needs. In the end, we want them all to succeed."

This June marks 20 years that Edge has been a nurse. She is passionate about nursing and feels the profession, and Campbell, are where the Lord has called her. Edge noted, "I miss bedside nursing sometimes and the impact I had on patients and their lives, but now I can impact so many more through educating future nurses." This year will be her ninth year helping to graduate future nurses, totaling close to 450 nurses that she has had the pleasure of educating.

"I am thrilled that Krystle has accepted the position of Assistant Director. Her extensive knowledge and background will serve the nursing program as we continuously improve our clinical and experiential learning for our students. Campbell Nursing is known for its quality and excellent graduates locally, regionally and nationally. Krystle has been an integral part of our leadership team, consistently demonstrating a high level of dedication, expertise, and leadership. This promotion is a testament to her and her hard work and commitment to excellence. We are confident that Krystle will continue to make significant contributions in her new role and help lead our team to new heights," Pam Edwards, director of the Catherine W. Wood School of Nursing, remarked.

Edge serves outside of the classroom on the review, evaluation vendor, clinical conference planning, and student conduct committees. She enjoys spending free time with her husband of 19 years and her two children, going to the beach, being on her family boat, and reading. Her official term as assistant director commenced on March 15.
