Donation to Australia-Japan Innovation Fund to support joint research activities in the fields of science and technology

Mitsui & Co., Ltd. ("Mitsui", Head Office: Tokyo, President and CEO: Kenichi Hori) has decided to make a donation to Australia-Japan Innovation Fund ("AJIF") to promote research activities in the fields of science and technology between Australia and Japan. The period of its donation will be for up to three years, commencing in March 2024. Its total amount including administration costs and research grants will be AUD$375,000 (approximately JPY36millon).

AJIF was established in 2015 with the support of both Australian and Japanese governments to promote cooperation and deepen mutual understanding between Australian and Japanese universities, research institution and private sectors in the fields of science and technology. To date, AJIF has supported 11 research projects regarding the developments of new materials and technologies.

AJIF has been supported by Rio Tinto, one of the world's leading mineral resource companies, and Mitsui's participation is expected to further promote cooperation between Australia and Japan and accelerate AJIF's activities. Mitsui is engaged in a wide range of business in Australia including Iron Ore, Coal, and other metal resources, as well as Energy, Chemicals and Food. Mitsui plans to support joint research between two countries that will promote the decarbonization and the others. In addition, together with Rio Tinto, Mitsui will support new initiative to develop the Australia-Japan partnership.
