Kelly tours Erie's Sphere Brake Defense

ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA -- On Wednesday, April 24, U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA) toured Erie's Sphere Brake Defense, Inc. following the company's recent funding that was included in the Defense Appropriations bill in the Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 federal budget.

Kelly was joined by Aaron "A.J." Lewis, Sphere Brake Defense Co-Founder & CEO, and Jason Pintea, Sphere Brake Defense Lean Leader.

"Over the years, I've had a front-row seat to watch Sphere Brake Defense grow from a startup into a leader in the defense industry. The best part is -- they are doing it right here in Erie,"said Rep. Kelly. "As the world faces uncertainty abroad, it's critical that we properly equip our military and those who serve in it. This funding will help both our service members and defense providers to do just that."

"Defense funding for tactical wheeled vehicles and modernization have been constrained to meet topline goals across appropriations. That is anticipated to continue through 2026. We were able to work with Congressman Kelly and his appropriations staff, in partnership with the program managers from the Department of Defense to secure critical funding for our sphere brake technology. That will facilitate our transition from R&D into limited rate initial production in 2024 and 2025 for a several military vehicles in support of the Army, Marine Corps, and USSOCOM. An opportunity to further advance an American made technology while increasing good paying jobs right here in the District," said Aaron "AJ" Lewis, Sphere Brake Defense Co-Founder & CEO.
