City Passes Resolution for Liquor License at Hillsview

At their April 16 meeting, the Pierre City Commission approved a resolution to allow an on-sale liquor license be issued to Hillsview Golf Course.

The move was made possible by a legislative change in 2023 to allow on-sale licenses at municipal venues.

According to Pierre Parks and Recreation Director Bryan Tipton, the Hillsview Golf Course patrons requested the city take advantage of this legislative change.

"This is something our members have been asking for at the clubhouse, and we have a clubhouse manager on contract who is willing to expand services to include liquor," said Tipton. "The course has long offered beer and wine; this adds another option."

With the resolution in place, the next steps for liquor service at Hillsview Clubhouse is submission of a liquor license application by the clubhouse manager, law enforcement review, a public hearing, and commission consideration.

"If all goes as expected, I anticipate the clubhouse will be able to offer liquor by the time golf season is in full swing," said Tipton.

Hillsview is a public par 72 course that features bent grass greens, bluegrass fairways and tees. The clubhouse is a full-service facility featuring a pro-shop, snack bar, grill, and seating for 85.

In 2023, more than 31,500 rounds were played at the city-owned course.
