Patchogue, NY - The National Park Service (NPS) announces Scott McCormick has been selected as the new Deputy Superintendent of Fire Island National Seashore. He is expected to begin the week of June 19.

Scott is currently employed with the Department of Homeland Security serving as the Deputy Regional Director with the Department's Federal Protective Service, Region Two. His 21-year federal career includes past positions with the US Forest Service as a Law Enforcement Officer, Special Agent, and as Program Manager working in the San Gabriel and Sierra Nevada Mountains in California and at the Forest Service's National Headquarters in Washington, DC. Scott also served in the Coast Guard in New England.

Scott comes to us with a wealth of experience and skillsets from his 21-year federal career. A native Long Islander, Scott's diverse background working for Homeland Security and Forest Service, along with his understanding of local issues at Fire Island National Seashore and Long Island, makes him a good fit for the park.

"I grew up on the Great South Bay and the entire south shore from Montauk to Lido West," said Scott. "Like many Long Islanders, the beaches and bays have been my backyard where I can find solitude, peace, recreation, and of course, beauty. I am humbled and honored by the privilege to work with park staff, communities and visitors to protect and help the public enjoy this iconic park that means so much to so many."

Scott, his wife Christy, and three young children enjoy recreating on the many parks and historic sites across Long Island and are engaged in local community events. In his spare time, Scott is an avid home chef and woodworker and enjoys practicing yoga, fitness, hiking, backcountry camping and surfcasting.

"I am excited to start this next chapter of my life and professional career. I am beyond thrilled to be joining the Fire Island National Seashore community. I cannot think of a better place to work than home."
