(BOWIE, Md.) - About 2,500 people flocked to Bowie State's Bulldog Stadium on April 8, 2024 for a solar eclipse watch party with students, faculty, staff and community members to witness the moon pass in front of sun.

The crowd was entertained with music from Bowie State's Symphony of Soul marching band as they observed the celestial event. According to NASA, the next total eclipse that can be seen in the contiguous United States will be Aug. 23, 2044.Physics professor Dr. Dawit Hailu, who initiated plans for the event with NASA partners, was pleased to see so many people gathered at the stadium to experience such a historic scientific event in person. He hopes the event inspires young minds to ask questions about the world around them.
