Intermittent Lane Reductions Overnight on I-380 to Begin Sunday

Beginning overnight Sunday night, April 28^th, I-380 will have intermittent lane reductions, going both northbound and southbound, between 1^st Avenue W and H Avenue NE for roadway improvements. The nightly lane reductions are expected to take place for approximately two (2) weeks. Additionally, the following ramp closures will occur overnight:

• Northbound 1^st Avenue W On-Ramp: April 29, 30 & May 1^st
• Northbound 7^th Avenue NE Off-Ramp: May 2^nd
• Northbound 8^th Avenue NE On-Ramp: May 5^th

West Post Road SW
Effective immediately, Monday, April 22nd, West Post Road SW is closed between 16^th Avenue and Wilson Avenue for roadway improvements. Work is expected to take approximately two (2) weeks. Access to businesses is maintained during the closure.

16th Avenue SE Improvements to Begin April 22
The City of Cedar Rapids will begin reconstruction work along 16th Avenue SE on Wednesday, April 22, 2024. The project area includes the 16th Avenue Bridge of Lions, 16th Avenue SE from 2nd Street to 4th Street, and 3rd Street SE east of 16th Avenue.

The project, separated into six phases, will begin with the closure of the 16th Avenue Bridge of Lions on Monday, April 22. Construction will continue in different areas until November. Additionally, a water main improvement project will start at the intersection of 16th Avenue SE and 3rd Street on Wednesday, April 17.

The public is invited to learn about construction timing, lane and road closures, detours, and related impacts during an information meeting to be held Thursday, April 18, 2024 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at the National Czech and Slovak Museum and Library, 1400 Inspiration Point SW. A 20-minute presentation will begin at 4:30 p.m., with staff available throughout to answer questions from the public.

Overnight Lane Reductions on Highway 30 to Begin Tonight
Beginning tonight, Monday, April 1st, alternating lane reductions will be in place overnight on Highway 30, between Edgewood Road and 6^th Street SW, for roadway improvements performed by the Iowa Department of Transportation. Construction work on the ramps at Edgewood Road SW will also occur at times, but all ramps will remain open to traffic at all times. Work is expected to last until mid-June. Walford Road SW Closed to Thru-Traffic Beginning Monday
Beginning Monday, March 25, 2024, Walford Road SW will be closed to through traffic between 6^th Street and Earhart Lane for the installation of new pavement, and water main and storm sewer improvements. Access to properties will be maintained during the closure. Work is expected to last until approximately mid-June.

35th Street NE Closed to Through Traffic at Eastern Avenue/Zach Johnson Drive Intersection
Starting Monday, March 18, the Paving for Progress project along 35th Street NE, from Oakland Road to F Avenue, will begin. 35th Street will be closed to through traffic for the duration of the project.

Traffic impacts will begin Monday, March 18, with the first stage of work including the full closure of the intersection of 35th Street NE and Eastern Avenue/Zach Johnson Drive. During this stage, the work area begins about a half block west of Eastern Avenue NE and ends just east of the Eastern Avenue NE intersection.

Center Point Road NE
Effective Thursday, March 7, Center Point Road NE will be closed to thru-traffic from H Avenue to J Avenue while utility and roadway improvements are underway. This includes the full closure of the intersections at I Avenue and J Avenue. The intersection at H Avenue will remain open. Detours will be posted for through traffic. This closure is expected to be in effect through mid-summer. View project updates.

Hickory Drive SW and 29th Street SW
Effective Monday, February 19, Hickory Drive SW from Wilson Avenue to 29th Street SW and 29th Street SW from Hickory Drive to 2018 29th Street SW, will undergo concrete panel replacement. Work is expected to progress in phases and take two (2) months.

Banar Avenue SW Street Improvements
Effective Monday, February 26, Banner Avenue SW from Coyote Road to Badger Drive, will undergo concrete panel replacement. Work is expected to take two (2) months.

1st Street NE Reduced to One Lane Between B Avenue and 1st Avenue E

Effective Wednesday, November 29th, southbound traffic on 1st Street NE will be reduced to one lane between B Avenue and 1st Avenue E for construction of Flood Control System (FCS) infrastructure. Work is expected to last until the spring of 2025.

FCS construction in this area will better protect the City from a flooding event and includes a pump station between the Tree of Five Seasons sculpture and I-380, a new flood wall from 1st Avenue to I-380, and three flood gates located at E and F Avenue (under I-380) and 2nd Avenue SE.
