Kicking Off the Great American Cleanup

NORFOLK, VA - Keep Norfolk Beautiful (KNB) and Norfolk's Department of Parks & Recreation are leading a large-scale litter cleanup of Lafayette Park on March 24 as part of the Great American Cleanup.

Starting at 10 a.m., City teams along with Norfolk State University's radio station, several groups from the U.S. Navy and Norfolk residents will tackle litter along with cleaning up park shelters, trimming bamboo and spreading mulch on the playground. The Electric Boat Company will bring two boats to lead a water-based cleanup alongside kayakers.

The Great American Cleanup is a three-month outreach program to raise awareness on environmental issues across the country. In addition to this Friday's event, KNB is hosting additional events to get residents and organizations involved.

March 25 - 26: Keep Norfolk Beautiful Days, Block by Block: Gather a broom, rake, or shovels and spruce up your street! Whether you choose a litter pick up or a new planting, you can do your part to keep Norfolk beautiful this weekend. Pick your day, time, and activity.

March 25: Crossroads Elementary School, 9 a.m. - noon: Join Crossroads Civic League to clean up the school yard, parking lot, and streets.


April 22: Earth Day Event, Northside Park, 9 a.m. - noon:
Join the Crossroads Civic League in Northside Park for an Earth Day litter cleanup!
