Gallagher Encourages Participation in GWOT Foundation's "Help Design History" Campaign

September 26, 2023

Rep Mike Gallagher applauded the launch of the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT) Memorial Foundation's twenty-two-day campaign entitled, "Help Design History." The campaign allows every American to "Help Design History" by filling out a survey to provide input on how the Global War on Terrorism Memorial should take shape. This design approach is the first of its kind and will help ensure the story of any American impacted by the Global War on Terrorism is accurately displayed.

"Congress authorized the Global War on Terrorism Memorial to be built on the National Mall so that the generations of veterans who served in this conflict could be honored just like the veterans of major wars before them. As we move forward with constructing the memorial, it's now time to decide how their story is told. This campaign gives every American the opportunity to make their voice heard in how the memorial honors GWOT veterans, and I hope any person impacted by the war takes time to provide input into what they'd like this memorial to look like," said Rep. Gallagher.

Any American looking to participate can visit the Foundation's website to learn more about the campaign and fill out the survey HERE. The deadline for submissions is October 17th.

Background

Rep. Gallagher has been instrumental in the creation of the Global War on Terrorism Memorial. He previously led an effort to create this Memorial during his first term in Congress, but additional legislation was required to allow for the memorial to be constructed on the National Mall. Gallagher and Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO) worked for years to highlight the importance of building the memorial on the National Mall and pass legislation that would allow this to happen.

Both Gallagher and Crow are veterans of the Global War on Terrorism, having served in the Marines and Army, respectively.
