On Thursday, Czech companies in the nuclear energy sector signed Memoranda of Cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Trade with Westinghouse Electric Company, one of three potential bidders for the construction of a new nuclear power plant in Dukovany.

"Support for Czech industry is a long-term priority of the Ministry of Industry and Trade within the selection procedure for the supplier of the Dukovany II nuclear power plant technology, which is also one of the prerequisites for the project's success" says Tomáš Ehler, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade for Nuclear Energy.

Last June, during a visit by the South Korean Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Czech Republic similarly expanded its cooperation with South Korea. The French company Electricité de France signed a Memorandum of Future Cooperation with leading Czech companies operating in the nuclear power industry last December.

In order to maintain the long-term competitiveness and readiness of Czech companies for contracts in the nuclear energy sector, it is necessary that they have enough of them. Signed memoranda can help Czech companies win contracts for Westinghouse projects abroad. This will enable them to retain the necessary number of experts and specialists until the construction of a new nuclear power plant in Dukovany and potentially other units in the Czech Republic is fully running.

As part of a number of negotiations and the long-term mutual cooperation, Czech companies have proven their expertise and quality in order to become a future part of the supply chains of Westinghouse and other global players in the nuclear energy sector. The Ministry of Industry and Trade supports and will continue to support the establishment of cooperation between Czech companies with these companies, now especially with applicants willing to participate in the construction of the Dukovany II nuclear power plant.
