City of Buda Announces Official Name for

New Street Near Cabela's

BUDA, TEXAS - The Buda City Council recently voted to officially name a newly constructed street between Cabela's Drive and W. Goforth Drive as Rylander Street. Prior to completion, the throughway previously had been referred to as the Cabela's Connector.

"Rylander Street" was recommended as the new name by the Buda Planning and Zoning Commission. It honors the Rylander family, who moved to Buda in 1893, after purchasing 546 acres of land along Onion Creek, where Main Street and the Cabela's Outfitter development are situated. Descendants Don Rylander sold 126 acres of the farm to the area that comprises the Cabela's Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone.

"In 1893, Few Rylander moved from Long Branch in Guadalupe County to the newly built town of Buda," Melissa McCollum, Buda's director of planning said, explaining, "This name change will honor the Rylander family and their deep roots in Buda."

Buda Public Works Department crews plan to install street name signage accordingly in the coming weeks.

The City of Buda is home to about 18,000 residents and has earned designations as a "Texas Main Street City," "Tree City USA," "Bee City Affiliate" and "Platinum Level Scenic City." Buda is situated along the Interstate 35 corridor, has 14 parks and a historic downtown district where residents and visitors alike can shop, dine, relax, and breathe easy here.
