HONOLULU, Jan. 19, 2024 - Hawaiian Electric crews will do emergency work tomorrow, Jan. 20, to replace a damaged cross arm on a utility pole off Pali Highway, requiring closure of the right Kailua-bound lane near the Nuuanu Reservoir from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. A helicopter must be used to safely complete the repairs.

The work to ensure circuit reliability requires the right lane closure to start just past Nuuanu Pali Drive and end before the turnoff to the Pali Lookout. Utility trucks will be staged along the highway.

Due to the utility pole's remote location in heavy vegetation, a helicopter must be used to safely set the cross arm. In compliance with FAA regulations and Hawaiian Electric safety practices, the helicopter will not fly over residential or populated areas while carrying loads.

Flagmen will provide onsite traffic control. Safety signs and traffic cones will mark the work area and direct motorists to the open traveling lane. Motorists should drive with caution when approaching and passing the work zones, expect traffic delays or use alternate routes.
