Mayor Mantello Announces Paving Program, Lead Pipe Replacement Schedule & 'Pitch In' Troy

Doubling down on coordination between departments and outside contractors to tackle much needed paving, which includes Campbell Ave reconstruction

Troy, NY (April 18) - Mayor Mantello is excited to announce the first phase of a city-wide program to pave streets, replacing lead pipes, and encouraging residents and businesses to pitch in.

Mayor Mantello stated, "Troy streets are long overdue for a refresh as part of the Quality of Life Action Task Force Phase 1 Troy Paving Program. If your street is not included in the schedule, do not worry. As the city is collaborating with National Grid and various city departments, the phased schedule will allow room for adaptation."

All roads included in the street paving schedule will be milled and paved. Milling removes the top layer of the roadway in preparation for the new asphalt to be put down. This ensures proper adhesion and acts as a preventative measure against potholes. In addition to milling and paving, the city has already begun updating ADA curb ramps to make them more accessible. Campbell Ave will have additional sidewalk work done as well.

Mayor Mantello continued, "No parent should be afraid of what is coming out of their tap, so we are kicking up our lead pipe replacement program to replace all lead pipes in the next four years."

Through the lead pipe replacement program, the city will be hitting lead pipe hotspots. This program will coincide with street paving, and property owners will be notified prior to replacements. To coincide with phase 1 of street paving, the listed hotspots will be addressed.

While city officials and various departments are hard at work to make Troy safer and cleaner, Mayor Mantello is encouraging the public to pitch in. 'Pitch In Troy' is an initiative that encourages residents to do their part in the beautification and revitalization of our neighborhoods. Whether it be picking up litter or cleaning up front yards, no action is too big or too small. Improving our city is a collaborative effort and we need our residents and businesses to pitch in.

Please note that the schedules for lead pipe replacements and street paving are subject to change. The schedule is dependent on coordination with National Grid and various city departments.
