Two-day programme on enhancing Maritime Domain Awareness in the Indian Ocean Region held

A programme on enhancing Maritime Domain Awareness in the Indian Ocean Region was held in Colombo. The two-day programme co-hosted by the United Nations Office on Drugs & Crime (UNODC) and the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) commenced at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel in Colombo on Tuesday (Mar. 26), reports SLN media.

Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, H.E. MIZUKOSHI Hideaki and Navy Commander Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera graced the programme with their presence, it says.

Thematic discussions were held under the theme "Charting Unruly Waters: Enhancing Maritime Domain Awareness in the Indian Ocean Region" with the participation of local and foreign panelists.

The occasion was also attended by the Head of the UNODC Global Maritime Crime Programme based in Colombo, Ms Siri Bjune, Director General Operations of the Sri Lanka Navy, Rear Admiral Nishantha Peiris and UNODC representatives, it further says.
