Firm Represents Pharmaceutical Company Against Sellers of More Than $250 Million Worth of Counterfeit HIV Medications

Patterson Belknap's Anti-Counterfeiting and Brand Protection team, led by Geoffrey Potter, executed seizures at 17 locations in nine states, seizing thousands of bottles of counterfeit HIV medicine on behalf of an American biopharmaceutical company. The case was originally filed under seal in July 2021 in the Eastern District of New York, and was unsealed on Tuesday, January 18, 2022. As reported in the Wall Street Journal, "[i]n several cases, the bottles contained the wrong pills, including an over-the-counter painkiller and an antipsychotic drug instead of the HIV medications the patients were prescribed, the company alleged. An updated version of the complaint names dozens of defendants, including marketers, suppliers and distributors."
