NMDOT: U.S. Highway 70 Construction Update

Beginning Wednesday, March 27, 2024, Terrero Construction crews will close the eastbound right lane of U.S. Highway 70, which is also north Main Street, from Temple Street to north Triviz Drive.
Residents and motorists are reminded that all construction work is dependent on weather conditions and is subject to changes without notice. These phases of road construction are anticipated to continue through June 2024.
This is a NMDOT road improvement project utilizing state and Federal Highway Administration funding.

Traffic impacts residents and motorists should be aware of include:

• Crews will begin reconstructing driveways providing access to businesses on the east side of the road.
• Where businesses have access through only one driveway, crews will work on one-half of the driveway at a time.
• Where businesses have access through two driveways, crews will work on one driveway, then move to the other after completing the first driveway,
• Construction of each driveway will last about three to five days.
• For the safety of the traveling public, the Alameda Arroyo trail crossing remains closed. Traffic on the east side of U.S. 70 and north Main Street has one lane open from north Solano Drive to north Triviz Drive.
• Traffic near the Alameda Arroyo is moved to the west side of the road with one lane in each direction.

The speed limit throughout the construction zone has now been reduced to 35 mph. Motorists are urged to use extra caution, obey the lower speed limits, and allow for extra time while driving in the construction zone.

Regular work hours on U.S. 70 and north Main Street are from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday Terrero Construction, the contractor for the project, may work longer hours or on weekends if needed.
Additional phases will follow, with the project expected to be completed in October 2024. Access for all residences and businesses will be maintained during construction.
