5.6.2023

Priority question for written answer P-001780/2023
to the Vice-President of the Commission / High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy
Rule 138
Chris MacManus (The Left)

In May 2023, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967 described Israel as a 'colonial power maintaining the occupation in order to get as much land as possible'.

  • 1)Does the Vice-President of the Commission / High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy (VP/HR) agree with the statement by the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967?
  • 2)In light of the UN Special Rapporteur's statement, what role does the VP/HR see for the EU in supporting the work of UN human rights mechanisms and advancing the promotion and protection of human rights in the region?
  • 3)Against the backdrop of the flare-ups of violence, what concrete steps does the VP/HR plan to take in order to work towards shaping a long-term vision for a just and sustainable resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and to contribute to realising that vision?
