City of Henderson Releases 2024 Sustainability Report Card

HENDERSON, Nev. (April 22, 2024) - The City of Henderson released its 2024 Sustainability Report Card to highlight how the City is doing its part in protecting the region's valuable and natural resources.

"Henderson is the community where I grew up and I care deeply about preserving and enhancing this place I love for all our families," said Mayor Michelle Romero. "I'm proud of our City's current sustainability programs and achievements to date, and with the help of our residents, businesses and community partners we will build on these successes and create the future this incredible community deserves."

The 2024 Sustainability Report Card details the City of Henderson's successes in the following key areas:

Strategic Plan
• Adopted the new Healthy, Livable and Sustainable City priority in the 2024-2027 strategic plan, including developing the Climate Response Initiative.

Water Conservation
• Launched H2One - Henderson's call to conserve water, resulting in a reduction of one billion gallons of water consumption in 2023 compared to 2022.
• Launched the Residential Landscape Rebate program, which supplements the Southern Nevada Water Authority's Water Smart Landscape rebate program. At the end of 2023, 42 applications were approved.
• Launched the Water Conservation Award in 2022 to recognize and honor City of Henderson residents and businesses for making significant contributions to water efficiency.

Turf Conversion
• Converted 5.3 million square feet of grass in the City of Henderson, saving 296 million gallons of water annually.
• Completed nine turf removal projects in 2022 and 2023 in City parks, saving 13.6 million gallons of water annually.

Trees and Green Spaces
• Planted 158 trees in Henderson to reduce urban heat as well as other environmental benefits.
• Added recycling to 53 parks in 2022 and 2023.
• Extended our trail system by 14 miles and added 113 miles of bike lanes to City streets.

Climate and Energy
• Purchased enough renewable power for City building and streetlight operation to offset 86% of greenhouse gas emissions and avoided producing 24,618 tons of CO2.
